Cat6 LAN Cable – Black – 26AWG CCA

Not all cables are made equal! We here at Video Conferencing Australia have extremely high standards when it comes to which products we select to add to our range, and when it comes to networking there is no difference. Networking connectivity and speeds are one of the most important part, whether it be for Teleconferencing / Video Conferencing, or Connecting a Smart TV to the internet for firmware updates – and if the cable is not up to standard, then the whole experience suffers. That is why we have chosen to stock high quality Cat6 LAN Cable.

So what is a Cat6 LAN Cable?

To understand that I will have to give you a brief explanation of the standards for network cables. The first Ethernet cables that were assembled with coaxial cable up until 1984, when the first un-shielded twister pair cables were manufactured. These were known as Cat3 and contained 4 wires in 2 pairs of 2. For the time these cables were sufficient – but if used today, well let’s just say that networks would grind to almost a halt. These cables were only able to transmit data at speed of 10Mbps (remembering that the data transfer speeds are commonly referred to in bits as opposed to bytes. A 10 megabit cable is able to transmit a maximum of 1.25 Megabytes per second).

As the technology was refined and improved on, advances were made and that brings us to the last few years – Cat5, Cat5e and Cat6 Cables which contain 8 wires, split into 4 pairs.

Cat5 were designed to support theoretical speeds of 10Mbps and 100Mbps. Its predecessor Cat5e was designed to support 1000Mbps (1Gbps) speeds making it the first Ethernet cable capable of supporting “gigabit” speeds.  The CAT5e cable reduced crosstalk (the interference generated between the wires inside of the cable). Cat5e speeds make it a fairly common cable at the moment.

However, technological advances are happening constantly and the amount of data that is being transmitted is increasing exponentially. Which leads me to Cat6 range of Ethernet Cables. Capable of transmitting data at speeds of 10Gbps (10,000Mbps) , increased shielding to further reduce cross talk – these cables are perfect for connecting any network-able device to your network where speed is paramount.

  • Perfect in conjunction with 10, 100,1000 Base-T networks.
